About the Author
Claire Meadows has traversed a diverse path throughout the course of her career. The journey has taken her from being a civil servant at the UK Home Office during the Blair premiership, to founding and heading up one of the UK's most vibrant cultural forces - Nyne Enterprises Ltd - parent company of After Nyne Magazine, After Nyne Online and the Nyne Creative agency. She is the author of two previous poetry collections, Gold After and Brittle Fires, both for Tempest Press. Her work has been compared most favourably with that of both Allen Ginsberg and Sylvia Plath.

I always find it difficult to review poetry. It's a stylized version of emotions and personal memories, usually, but I manage to do it whenever a poetry collection comes my way.
Dagda Publishing seems to be today's best in finding and publishing the best modern poets out there, like Claire Meadows, whose latest poetry collection, To The Lions, is short, sweet and deep.
Each poem is different, though in the same style, and all fit perfectly together to make a beautiful and slightly dark little story.
The poems talk about love, loss, strength and survival of life. They are thought-provoking, and musical. If you like to dissect poetry for the deeper meaning, you'll love this book. If you like to read poetry for the music of the mind, you will also love this book.
I felt tearful at some parts, empathetic at others and always, I was entertained. I just wish the book had been longer than 15 poems!
I know I will be reading more from Claire Meadows!

A briliant account of love and its truth and lies ...

Claire Meadows is a wonderful talent. Her skill is in the unsparing honesty of her emotional visions. Each poem directly connects the reader to the heart of the matter (to borrow from Graham Greene's title). It has been a very long time since I've read poetry as raw and brave about love and loving as in this collection - the best poems from Sylvia Plath and the song lyrics of David Sylvian came to mind. But comparison doesn't do this work much justice. To The Lions has a unique take on the trials of love and its attendant compromises. My favourite lines: "I was not my own. Was I ever? You threw me to the lions, and I turned, I turned. The only thing to do was run. Run back to the ghost of you." A wonderful poem from a wonder filled collection.

Well, it isn't everyday that you take a trip via the back roads of another's soul, where the flanking countryside is ash, blood, rips in the fields and in the dubious firmament overhead; a countryside where the only landmarks are chapels constructed of abnormally grown thorns. That's the trip I've just taken this past hour with fifteen poems by Claire Meadows gathered under, "To The Lions." This is indeed a poetic purgation the like of which I would call "Roman," as the title implies. Like a storybook of Rome, these poems intertwine remarkable passion with remarkable downfall and a rehabilitation of universal character. For those who devour poetry, let your next selection be, "To The Lions."
