I recommend this book and the soul of this poet to ...

These are poems to be read slowly, while sitting under a tree in late Spring -- or on a high dune overlooking a rowdy sea -- slowly, because the language is rich, yet not so complex as to leave the reader lost for meaning; no, I mean slowly because of that richness, because one needs to savor the moments and imagery as they unfold. Read with too much editorial haste and you might miss the beauty that peeks out from the corners of stanzas and solitary lines. I recommend this book and the soul of this poet to the adventurous and the contemplative (not that these 'types' are different from each other). You will find depth here --- and joy --- and a reverence that is much needed though always readily available to the pen of a really good poet. Laurie Klein is one such poet. I think you will agree.

These are painfully beautiful poems with an intensity that will lure and keep you. Though communicating through a range of often surprising images and language, the poems are not ultimately disparate. They hold together with a voice like deep blue glass—strong in curve and color, even as they speak of the shattering of self and soulmates due to the loss of a facet of life that was once a point of connection.
The real power of these poems comes from the story they cumulatively tell. And, perhaps especially, the parts of the story they don't tell.

Where the sky opens, we are shown places in the mind we knew not of.

Compact. Concise - pointed, yet with a sense of wonder. The world as it is, we have differing beliefs, but when all is peeled away, the human mind takes us to similar places. When someone is able to interpret those places in the mind in a way that most can understand, it is a gift. This is a book you read, hand off, and hope like hell you get it back - or just buy another. Mine is already in the hands of others, and I sit here waiting for the next copy. Thank you for your gift. It was a pleasure to read, and like most things, reading again and again peels back meaning on more levels, whether the intent was there or not.
