A Review of Dominions of Corrosion by Jimmy Boom Semtex
With a name like Jimmy Boom Semtex you expect the poems in this short collection to be explosive and this book does not fail. The writing is gritty modern realism and grabs you sucking you down into the life of the poet. The poems in this collection offer the reader a huge variety of work, every poem is startlingly fresh and unique from the dark romance of an almost relationship gone wrong in ‘New Couple’ to the near social commentary of ‘Fine’.
These poems are fresh, real and not for the fainthearted. I particularly enjoyed the semi-autobiographical poems such as ‘Forgive Me Not’ and ‘Purrfect Pussy’ which ooze real emotion,
Forgive Me Not
‘Forgive me not for this poem but how I feel.
The spark between us has gone.
Where I'm not sure?
I think we will soon part.
I'd let you go yesterday if I didn't love you.’
and
Purrrfect Pussy
‘People think that guys want all the pussy they can handle.
When I'm asked if I want new pussy, the answer is NO!
I struggle to satisfy the one I've got.
In bed, financially, mentally etc.’
