A must-read for those working in primary care settings.

This book helps to identify the value of integration through patient health care outcomes, provider support, and fiscal strategies. Recommended read!
I was excited to learn that Dr. Lesley Manson, PsyD was co-authoring Integrating Behavioral Health into the Medical Home because she was my consultant to learn PCBH and she is amazing!
As a Primary Care Integrated Behavioral Health provider in a small rural health clinic I especially appreciated how this book introduces and explains the benefits of PCBH services.
I see patients before and after their medical appointments for brief targeted goal oriented interventions to help them create small measureable goals to improve their health and wellness, goals of eating more fruits and veggies, getting more exercise or a better night’s sleep.
I work with patients on smoking cession and diabetes and high blood pressure management in short-term, solution focused; goal oriented appointments using evidenced based treatments for health and wellness education and risk reduction.
I engage in brief interventions and appointments to help patients with mental health issues like stress management, anxiety, depression or insomnia and I work with patients in crisis, to assess their safety, address their risk and thoughts and plans of suicide and I refer them to the appropriate level of care.
I see firsthand how Primary care providers and organizations navigate the demands of managed care for improved patient outcomes and reduced cost while struggling with shorter appointments, longer days and more complex patients. PCIBH providers are the support needed to improve patient outcomes, reduce cost of chronic illness and provide on the spot mental health support. I see PCBH providers as the wave of the future and in a few years all of primary care will wonder how they ever did without PCBH providers.

As a clinical health psychologist who provides both clinical and administrative services in primary care for the past 10 years, I have found this to be one of the most useful and easy-to-read guides about the most important aspects of doing the work of integration of behavioral health in primary care. For someone with little to no experience in this field to the provider who has been practicing for years, I feel like this is a resource everyone can learn from or at the minimum obtain validation about the direction of their integration. I made sure all of the key people in my organization had copies and will be using my copy as a resource for the many presentations I give on the topic. To have all of the pertinent resources in such an organized and well-written manner is a win-win for the field and all of the organizations who are aspiring to integrate their behavioral health services into primary care. Couldn't feel more satisfied or pleased with this book!

Ideas worthy of consideration, and a blueprint to implement them.

I have been a skeptical integrating behavioral health into my group family practice. Dr. Corso's book has really has really made it hard for me NOT to move forward with the integration of behavioral health into the practice. There is clear value in the integrated delivery of behavioral health -- which I am learning extends well beyond treating mental health conditions. I like how this book explains many common pitfalls other healthcare organizations have suffered. Thus, helping us avoid wasted time, staff and resources integrating ineffectively or inefficiently. I found the resources on hiring and training an integrated behavioral health professional were dynamic. I would definitely recommend this book to others, especially other skeptics of integrated behavioral health (like me).
