Short and sweet

This short e-book cookbook contains recipes specifically for the FODMAP diet to treat IBS, so if you don’t already know what that is, you will have to find out. The author does provide links to FODMAP resources and her other books, as well as a preview of her book that covers some of the information. The recipes are simple and straight forward and consist of ingredients that most people have on hand or can easily obtain. Many of the recipes rely on a food processor or blender so have a good one on hand. A few common recipes appear revamped within the FODMAP guidelines, like Chicken Salad and Spinach and Oregano Lasagna. Others, like Banana Flaxseed Oatmeal, are new and off beat, but okay.
The biggest drawback is the lack of index or contents to the recipes themselves so you have to scan through the all the recipes to find the one you want. The FODMAP diet is restrictive, but these recipes present a variety of tastes and ingredients. I wish that there were more.
I am giving only three stars because it is short and difficult to find a specific recipe.

Misleading title

The title is misleading; I thought that since it was called the '28 Day Diet Plan' it would include some sort of daily plan for 28 days: Breakfast, lunch, dinner, snacks, etc. Instead, there's a short introduction that spells out the acronym FODMAP and tells readers that they'll have to avoid a long list of foods. Then the book goes straight into recipes. There are 8 recipes in each of the first three chapters, and other than those recipes, there's no guidance as to what else you should be eating during each of those three weeks. It gives the impression that you choose a recipe each day and that's all you eat for that day. The final chapter/week includes 9 recipes. The conclusion gives no after-care suggestions. The recipes do look delicious, and I am excited to try some of them, but I suggest reading this book only for the recipes, not for the hope of finding an actual plan to follow.

Not a Plan, Not Low FODMAP

My doctor recommended that I try a low FODMAP diet for IBS. I've been reading up on what foods are allowed so was surprised to see some of the high FODMAP foods in the recipes in this book, e.g., garlic, mushrooms, onions and processed spaghetti sauce. I was also surprised that the book did not actually set out a plan. The reputable sources of low FODMAP diet plans, such as Stanford, recommend that you cut out high FODMAP foods for up to 12 weeks (usually 4-6 weeks), then add them back in gradually. The book implies, though, that some high FODMAP foods are allowed throughout. Some of the recipes looked good but I'm not going to try them.
