About the Author
A self-proclaimed chatterbox, Janice O’Brien was born when Sun and Mercury were in Gemini, creating her strong drive for self expression and communication. She is a poet, writer and designer living on the Main Line outside of Philadelphia. Over her professional career, Janice was an Art Director, Package Designer, Brand Manager and Marketing Director, all requiring considerable amounts business and promotional writing. She is a member of the Main Line Writers Group, Off Line Poets.

Of Heart and Wisdom

It is a fine thing to sit down with a book of Poems and read them all at once very raptly. It will not be the only time I read them. Janice O' Brien's poems come right from the heart whether they are a light hearted examination of the daily as is "Toast" or the deeply moving examination of relationship as in "My Mother Died". The full presence of this Poet makes every poem simultaneously unique and universal. Janice O Brien has the extraordinary ability to be fully present where she is and to invite you in. You will emerge singularly touched and very grateful.

Inspiration and Renewal: The Fine Poetry of Janice O'Brien

Beautifully written "Poems I Wrote When I Wasn't Talking" by Janice O'Brien, a slim volume featuring poetry in themes of love, family, nature, death, life and art in this astonishing collection. Janice O'Brien is a member of the Main Line Writers Group, Off Line Poets, and the Academy of American Poets, she lives near Philadelphia, PA.
Love is meshed with elements in "Bring Me The Sunset" along with daisies tied in a bow. "The Wedding China" a remembrance of family lore and traditions passed along. O'Brien recalls her relationships with her parents in memorial poems, the reality of loss and human imperfection. Yet, with the deep sadness of some poems, there is another unmistakable sense of wonder, excitement and renewal found in others, in this inspiring poetry collection. ~ From the Book... Published Poet Loves This Woman's Work!

Janice O'Brien's collection about family, love, nature, life and the end of life, is richly textured with authentic language and vivid, memorable descriptions. Ms. O'Brien's language echoes sounds of her own experience, yet so identifiable as the experience of us all. I felt as if I were looking in a mirror. She displays a light heartedness in the wake of sometimes devastating loss and abandonment. She reminisces about her history with tenderness and humor. I enjoyed her excitement with a New York morning in "Breakfast Pandemonium." I cried with the reality of "My Mother Died," and wanted to meet her dad after reading "Praise on Father's Day." Her opening poem "The Mango" deserved first place. I will read these poems again often, finding new insights with each mindful return. As a poet myself, I may "steal shamelessly" as I study her approach and techniques. Forgive me, fellow poet!
