Cancer? What happens now?

This is a very informative, easy to read book for anyone who has been, or knows or lives with someone, diagnosed with cancer. It gives a brief but concise step by step approach to dealing with your diagnosis, and care. The explanations of different processes, such as an implanted port or a PET scan can answer many beginners questions, and leave them more able to ask questions of their healthcare providers. I would like to see this book become a part of every Cancer Center freely available in the waiting room to those who are facing their newly diagnosed cancer and are frightened, not knowing what comes next. This book answers those questions, and empowers the patient and caregivers. Living with cancer: If we had only known then ... No better way to learn than through the experience of others.

Looking through the eyes of what a patient with cancer goes through and what a caregiver goes through is so very important. Indeed, most physicians do their best with the knowledge they have, however, ONLY when they can look at things from the patient and caregiver's perspective can they BEGIN to really treat the patient. In this frank book, Maryellen Woods reaches out to others who are going through the devastating struggle of cancer. I commend her for her commitment and compassion to help others. As the oncologist who was privileged and honored to care for Joe and her I thank them from the bottom of my humbled heart.

Many emotions accurately described; feeling unable to control situation adds to intensity of emotions. Setbacks are discussed and importance caregiver has alone time. Worth purchasing for family and friends.
