About the Author
Henry Wadsworth Longfellow was an American educator and poet. His first major poetry collections were Voices of the Night (1839) and Ballads and Other Poems (1841). Longfellow retired from teaching in 1854 to focus on his writing, living the remainder of his life in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Longfellow wrote lyric poems known for their musicality, which often presented stories of mythology and legend, and was the most popular American poet of his day.

Love of Poetry

Poetry is something I grew to love because of my dad and his love for it. Longfellow was always my favorite, and long before I could read, I was quoting poems by Longfellow. This book includes my favorites. It is great for children to help them learn to enjoy hearing poetry, and it also brings back many memories of my dad with me sitting on the front porch swing, quoting Longfellow.
